Cutting Costs in Your Small Business

If you are a small business owner you understand that with the economy being the way it is, it is important to find ways to cut costs and manage your expenses yet stay competitive. There are several ways that you can do this without losing employees due to them leaving or having to cut employees to cut costs.

One way to do this is to allow your employees to telecommute whenever possible, even if it is only one day a week. By allowing your employees to telecommute you are helping them save cost due to rising fuel costs, therefore keeping your employees happy and more productive. This can also save you money in the long run as well. Many parents are returning to work or looking for work and may have daycare concerns or separation anxiety. Offering a telecommuting option for parents will give you the employees you need and help them at the same time.

Find ways that your business can use energy efficient technology to reduce energy costs. Using less energy will obviously save you money in the long run. You can also join in the efforts to recycle and “go green.” Overall, this can not only save you money but you will be helping the environment at the same time.

Reduce your amount of mail that is being sent through “snail mail.” Although using the postal system to send out information to your potential clients and customers used to be the way things were done, with the continual rising cost of postage and changes in postage costs it may be more cost effective to send whatever information you can through email or electronic mail systems or even fax the information. This will save a significant amount of money on postage, envelopes, paper, and ink.
